Mukti and Imelda met in Berkeley, California, where the food culture and philosophy of local produce and innovation blended well with their eclectic culinary style and approach to event design.

Applying native California sensibilities within a New York context, they developed their own brand of "exotic comfort foods" and started Five Spice Catering. Their farmer's market-meets-bazaar approach means marrying fresh ingredients with distinctive flavors from roads less traveled.

Being good to the earth and mindful of sustainability is important to Five Spice. We are thoughtful about the products we use and the amount of trash we generate. Our disposables are biodegradable, compostable and Eco-friendly—we never use plastic or styrofoam. We also give a portion of our profits to organizations that work to unite local farms and city residents of all economic backgrounds with fresh, seasonal, ethically grown food.
